Having viewed through many telescopes after joining an astronomy club, I decided to get the Saxon 8" collapsible.Price Value Quality
I have viewed through several telescopes and after looking through the Saxon 8" collapsible Dob I was impressed at the views. The price and portability of such a great light bucket made me buy this telescope.
Australia Telescopes shipped me the package incredibly quickly, had the best support, and was the best priced so they are highly recommended by me.
Definitely one of the best if not the best values for a portable 8 inch / 200mm telescope in Oz. (Posted on 20 January 2012)

A good scope for a beginner, highly recommended. Although you will be excited at least align the finderscope as I missed that step! I was able to find Saturn and Jupiter, and they were razor sharp with a great deal of details in the planets - I was awestruck! Even the moon and its craters was really a sight to see, binoculars just don't do the moon justice.Price Value Quality
Deep sky objects are best viewed when the moon is not out, but even with the moon about I was able to clearly see Orion nebula and the seven sisters with a lot of detail in the nebulosity!
I do recommend a 2X barlow and another 5mm eyepiece to complete this amazing piece of kit. (Posted on 10 December 2011)

A COLLAPSIBLE TRUSS-TUBE DOBSONIAN DESIGN THAT REQUIRES NO REASSEMBLY --THE ULTIMATE CONVENIENCE!
The venerable Dobsonian reflector design has recently undergone some important upgrades and improvements: Saxon is pleased to introduce the all-new Collapsible Dobsonian complete with Crayford focuser - the ultimate in large aperture portability and performance. This elegant truss tube design was carefully engineered to combine ease of use, extreme portability and consistent performance in an affordable package. Unlike other truss tube designs, the Saxon Collapsible Dobsonian does not need to be disassembled between uses. It transports as two compact pieces that can be assembled and ready to use in just seconds! It is easy to collimate once set up, and it holds its collimation throughout the evening! The bearing system has been redesigned as well. The new Saxon Collapsible Dobsonians feature buttery smooth azimuth bearings. Even the twelve-inch model can be rotated with just the push of a finger. Like our traditional Dobsonians, the new Collapsible Dobsonians feature Saxon's patented tension adjustment control on the altitude bearings. This eliminates the need and added cost of clumsy counterweight systems to balance the telescope. To top it off, all of the new Collapsible Dobsonians are shipping with ultra smooth Crayford focusers. 90 degree finderscope is also available.
